電子書籍は，今後のIT社会で重要かつ有益な役割を果たすことが期待されている分野の一つである。本論では，近年急速に普及することが予測されている電子書籍の動向，当社独自の電子書籍フォーマットとして普及を推進しているXMDF（Mobile
Document Format）技術及びそのオープン化につき説明する。
Electronic publishing is expected to be one of the most important technologies
in the coming IT society. In this paper, the trends in electronic publishing
are surveyed, whose growth is projected to gain momentum in the next several
years. It also describes technologies used in Sharp's original XMDF (Mobile
Document Format) as well as activities aiming for its open standardization.
