携帯電話や PHS にメールやブラウザなどのデータ通信の機能を付加する動きが出てきている。
NTT パーソナルグループは1998年３月からパルディオ E メール，パルディオ I メールおよび情報提供サービスの各サービスを開始した。また，これと同時にこれらサービスに対応した PHS 端末である，スーパーパルディオ551Sを発売した。これらサービスは，PIAFS による高速データ通信を活用しており，また，PHS 端末単体で手軽にデータコミュニケーションができる点が特長である。当社は端末機開発側の立場でこれらサービスの開発に協力した。本稿では，本サービスの特徴と構成について述べる。
Integrating data communication functions such as“e-mail”or“browser”into a cellular phone or a PHS terminal has got a momentum these days.
NTT Personal Group has provided three PHS network services named‘Paldio E Mail’,‘Paldio I Mail’,‘Information Service’starting March 1998. They also put a new PHS terminal‘Super Paldio 551S’, applicable for these services, on sale simultaneously.
With this‘Super Paldio 551S’, people can easily enjoy high-performance data communication using PIAFS.
We were greatly involved in providing these services through developing terminal devices.
This paper describes features and system structures of those services.
